Mind the Gap!
Purpose has been mislabelled as a ‘buzzword’ in the past couple of years and organizations are finally waking up to the reality that it is an existential issue instead.
Understanding what ‘Purpose’ actually means as a business term is vital for organizations to thrive in a future which is dependent on creating real meaning and value. In order to shift our perspective we must not only understand what having a Purpose means but also be aware of the gap that it creates. A recent research by Mckinsey, “Purpose: Shifting from why to how”, shows that acknowledging the Purpose-Action Gap is the first step for us to build a real and calculated foundation around our Purpose; and it’s a step in the right direction.
If we want to rethink the future of organizations, it’s about time we rethink the fundamental importance of understanding the ‘why’- the Purpose of organizations, and what this actually means, don’t you think?
